I thought I posted this already, but it is not showing up on the log. On 1/31/20 I met a new tutee named Renata. She is from Brazil and is an attorney. She is trying to get admitted into the FSU law school, my Alma Mater. She is hoping to be accepted into the LLM program which is a specialized degree of higher status than the Juris Doctor.
She asked me to help her with vocabulary related to the American court system. I explained some of the court vocabulary along with pronunciation. We also worked on some high-frequency words in that professional field. I encountered the apparently common problem of Portuguese speakers pronouncing the "e" in English words where it should be silent. Useful is an example. We went through the mechanics, and pronouncing the soft e was still present about 20% of the time in her repetition exercise. She is a very bright student and a fast learner.
