'Fill in the Blank'

  On Wednesday, Mohammed and I met at our usual location at CIES at approximately 4 PM.  We went to a classroom upstairs and began tutoring.  The first component that we covered was fill in the blank.  I printed out a passage for him and gave him a word bank for each blank space in the reading.  First, I asked him to read the passage out loud with the blanks.  I corrected his pronunciation as needed.  I also asked him to underline any words or phrases that he did not recognize or understand so that we could discuss them after he was finished reading.  He underlined a few words and I made sure to define them and give examples of sentences so that he could make sense of the meaning of the words.  Finally, using the word bank, he went through and chose the correct word and word tense for each of the blanks.  He had a few questions on why one word was correct and another was not.  I made sure to explain the reasons why.  At the end of this passage, I asked him to read out loud with the words that were written in the blanks.
