Jessica: CO #1

The first class that I observed was 4A’s Composition class taught by Ryan Flemming. The topic that was being worked on that day was paraphrasing. Professor Flemming used a PowerPoint to provide numerous examples of paraphrasing while also showing highly regarded people in Academia’s opinion on paraphrasing. After introducing the idea of paraphrasing and how to use it, Professor Flemming provided a worksheet and asked students to use adjective and noun clauses to convert the sentences. During this part, the Professor walked around the classroom to offer help and answer questions. Three things that I took away from his class are:

  • Always state your goal at the beginning of the class as well as throughout the class
  • Share your knowledge with your students!
  • Always ask if they have questions or if they would like to know more information
