For my seventh tutoring hour, Ahmed and I met in one of the CIES classrooms for an intensive reading exercise. We had a quick discussion on his and I's perspectives on dietary choices and eating healthy, something he seemed to take a keen interest in. After this, I had Ahmed read aloud an article from ProCon.org about veganism. ProCon.org has article that discuss a controversial issue and provides supporting and opposing arguments for each. Ahmed and I discussed difficult vocabulary that would be in the reading, and then he read the article using a bottom-up approach. After the reading, I asked him a few comprehension questions about the material he read, and then I hosted a small debate about the topic. This was preparation for a later lesson plan. I instructed Ahmed to write a small paper on his opinion about veganism, and we would review it at our next session.
