Tutoring Session #10

This past Wednesday, I met Abbas at the Hecht House for our weekly tutoring session. Given that the upcoming week is the final week of the session, he was a bit stressed about his workload for next week. In order to relieve some of his worries and to make productive use of our tutoring time, I suggested we spend the time reviewing for his approaching finals. Working under this mindset, I assisted him in brainstorming and writing part of his composition assignment. Given that his topic was on the importance of telling the truth and consequences of lying, we brainstormed reasons people needed to be truthful. He came up with several reasons, including to be successful, create good friendships, and to cultivate trust. After working on the composition for a bit, we transitioned to working on his survey project. While his survey topic is volunteering, Abbas didn’t understand what survey or volunteering meant, so we had a brief vocabulary lesson. We concluded the hour by brainstorming questions he can ask people on campus and the best way to structure his PowerPoint presentation. While he still has quite a bit of work to tackle for next week, I feel that our tutoring session helped relieve some of Abbas’s stress about the upcoming week.
