Michael TS#6

In this session, Renata and I met in CIES after her classes at 4:00 P.M. on Monday. We went over the concepts of could, should, and would. These are some words that she is using in class, and would like to get a better grasp on for use in both her speech and essays. I created a sheet with examples and explanations for each word. We went through each word separately and I had her write some sentences using them while also reading them aloud for pronunciation help. She seemed to have could down fairly good, but we went over its use in hypotheticals. This was a bit of a harder concept to grasp but after some examples she was able to create some complex sentences through speaking with me, but also some she would like to use in her upcoming essay on Tuesday! Renata seemed to have no serious issued with should but similar to could, we spent the most time talking about how to use should to express something that is probable. Finally, we got to would, where went over how to form a question using would, how to make a request, and how to talk about a hypothetical situation as we did with could. The biggest issue Renata had with would was actually pronunciation of it, due to the beginning W sound. To help her we said the word slowly together and I also recorded her saying it perfect so she could refer to the video for practice. I printed a worksheet but we did not get to it in time as she had a swimming class! We will start the worksheet next time and work on pronunciations of difficult words.
