This past Wednesday, Abbas and I met at the Hecht House for our third tutoring session. As a way to continue our discussion from the previous week as well as reinforce his knowledge of coordinating conjunctions I had him complete a compound sentence worksheet, in which he was tasked with combining two simple sentences into one compound sentence using the FANBOYS conjunctions. While I assisted him slightly, Abbas understood the assignment and completed it relatively quickly. I asked if he would like more practice on the subject or if he felt comfortable moving on and he responded saying he felt like he had a good grasp on the concept. Abbas then showed me a worksheet he had to complete for his grammar class in which he was tasked with writing five sentences in the future tense, five negative sentences in the future tense, and five questions in the future tense. Working collaboratively, I helped Abbas complete the practice sheet. Examples of some of the sentences he drafted included "You are going to take a hot bath." "I am not going to wash my dirty car." and "How are you going to solve the math problem?". We also worked on adding descriptive adjectives to his sentences to make them longer and more enjoyable to read.
