Dana TS #12

Yesterday I met with one of my tutees from Saudi Arabia for an hour. We discussed Muslim Culture and praying practices while she is in the US.  We turned our attention to pronunciation and the five rules for English grammar vowel pronunciation.  We then had a discussion about transitive and intransitive verbs.  I couldn't answer her question about whether is/are/were  i.e. verbs of state of being are transitive or intransitive.  I told her I would research it and text her.  My research revealed that they are neither-standing alone.  Typically they are linking verbs aka copulative verbs.  When linked to another verb like sleeping/drinking/crying etc, they are intransitive. I texted her and she was very grateful because now she finally understands.  We also went over an exercise on active and passive voice.
