In this tutoring session on February 15, 2020 Renata and I went over pronunciation and working with minimal pairs. Renata was telling me the CIES doesn't focus too much on pronunciation skills and she really wanted to work out some word with me. We went over harder long words such as homogeneous and hypothetical, which were words in which she is trying to use in class. To do this we took the larger words and broke them down in to smaller parts in order to get a grasp on each part of the word. We then said the word in full and I had her record herself pronouncing the words correctly to reference her work later for practice. We then went onto practicing with different minimal pairs to help her grasp the very small differences between very similarly sounding words. To do this i found a document that shows minimal pairs specifically geared towards Portuguese speaker as she is from Brazil. The pronunciation activities seemed to be very helpful and the recordings we made will be there to help her for future reference!
