The third class that I observed was 2A’s Reading class taught by Derrick Pollock. To begin the class, Dr. Pollock gave the students the agenda for the day, showcasing what they would be working on during class. Once the agenda was given, the Professor started an activity called “Hot Seat”. A student would randomly be called on to talk about a random subject for 45 seconds. This activity was extremely effective for students because it mimics conversations that one would have in everyday life. The main topic of the class was working on subject and verb agreement as well as transitional phrases. Two things that I took away from his class are:
- Speak slowly with beginners and enunciate as well as you can
- Give random topics to mimic conversations in order to help students when using English in conversations
