On Tuesday, I met with my conversation partner Yunjia. We talked a bit about our weekend and our plans for the week. I actually had an exam the day we met, so we kind of discussed ways to memorize Chinese Characters. I also got the chance to learn some Chinese history; for example, the Chinese language has measure words. I could not remember how to write the measure word for cup so she explained to me that it is basically the wood character with a twist. This is because back in the day cups were made out of wood, so they incorporated the character in its measure word. I also think this practice has helped with her speech skills especially sense when she is explaining the meaning of a sentence it makes her have to sculpt the Chinese sentence into the English sentence structure. I think this experience has also made me realize how difficult it is to learn another language and all the components it takes to learn it.
