Reading 4A
Ryan Flemming
Monday @ 11:00 -11:50 A.M

My first CIES class observation began with talking to some of the students, and Mr. Ryan Flemming introducing me to the class. The class began with Mr. Flemming talking about some of the upcoming events and homework that are on the syllabus, and then onto the lesson. Students were asked to talk about assigned reading from the novel Cinderella Man in groups, and then Mr. Flemming asked them what some of the key events in the chapter were. This was a check for comprehension and makes sense as this was a reading CIES class. Before they went on to reading the next chapter, they watched the events of from the film adapted to Cinderella Man. I think the visuals grabbed students' attention and helped the students fully comprehend the reading. The students moved on to the next chapter with Mr. Flemming using an audio cd to help students follow along. Any questions about vocabulary or the reading were answered afterwards. In the last activity, students were asked to answer some pre-reading questions in groups and share their answers with the class. The class ended with Mr. Flemming asking the students to read part of an article to talk about next time. This class was great, with a lot of student engagement and comprehension checks!
